A Signed Framed Poster Central Park Exhibit by Robert Indiana. USA.
1970s.
illustrating a large sculpture of LOVE in Central Park. Signed and dedicated 'For Marpe & Bob. With LOVE Bob.'71.'
Footnote - Autochronology.
1971 -Culmination of the LOVE theme takes the form of a monumentally scaled 12-foot high Cor-ten steel sculpture, fabricated by Lippincott of North Haven, Connecticut. Upon completion the piece is seen publicly for the first time in the exhibition “Seven Outdoors”, on the spacious grounds of the new Indianapolis Museum. From there it travels to Boston for the Institute of Contemporary Art’s “Monumental Sculptures for Public Places” in the enourmous plaza surrounding the spectacular new City Hall. The sculpture LOVE is set up in Central Park (in New York) at Christmastime; LOVE becomes the centerpiece of John Huszar’s documentary film “Indiana Portrait”, a 25-minute essay, Indiana’s first exposure to the medium of film since Warhol’s portrait (of him) in the Sixties. The musical background for the film is an expanded version of Virgil Thompson’s piano portrait of the artist, called “Edges”. Decade, a portfolio of ten serigraphs recapitulating and reproducing ten paintings executed in the ten different years of the Sixties, is published by Multiples of New York and Los Angeles and printed by Edition Domberger of Stuttgart.
